A TV serial called 'Lapataganj' predicted the coronavirus in 2014.

TV serial ‘Lapataganj did not predict the coronavirus pandemic in 2014.

TV serial ‘Lapataganj did not predict the coronavirus pandemic in 2014. A video is going viral claiming a TV show called Lapataganj predicted the coronavirus pandemic in 2014 in one of the episodes. The episode mentions a fatal foreign disease that spreads via sneezing, through physical contact, shaking hands. The character also talks about wearing masks.

While fact-checking, we found that the foreign disease discussed in the serial is not similar to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The show mentions that anyone with this foreign disease is constantly sneezing, shivering, and will die eventually due to these symptoms. Constant sneezing and shivering are not symptoms of Covid-19. The Tv show provides no further information about the disease.

Covid-19 is a new strain in the coronavirus family and is not a man-made disease. As the novel coronavirus is a new disease, we need more information to understand its transmission better.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
