There is no evidence yet that asymptomatic COVID-19 patients can infect others.

The World Health Organisation has confirmed that asymptomatic coronavirus patients could also be carriers of the transmission.

The World Health Organisation has confirmed that asymptomatic coronavirus patients could also be carriers of the transmission. The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has led to an increasing number of reports indicating that some infected people may not exhibit symptoms of an illness like fever, cough, headache etc.

The research report about it, submitted in February 2020, contained ambiguity about asymptomatic transmission. There was a familial cluster of COVID-19 with one asymptomatic patient and two patients with symptoms. Their patient records were analysed in detail, which indicated that the virus could be transmitted by asymptomatic carriers.

Tests are conducted to monitor the time scale and effectiveness of asymptomatic transmission because of limited data available on it. The data is collected through contact tracing efforts, household transmission studies, and estimates/inferences from mathematical modelling. As of now, asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic transmission ranges between 0% to 6.4% according to the WHO.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
