Dr. Kafeel Khan was arrested in Mumbai by the Special Taskforce Police of Uttar Pradesh on January 29, 2020, for his inflammatory remarks during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in Aligarh.

The recent demonstration was abided by the lockdown norms during the total lockdown imposed in the wake of rising cases of coronavirus, in Patna. The activists had been holding the placards communicating different slogans that demanded his immediate release.

A similar kind of campaign was noticed on the social media platform, Twitter. With over 1 lakh tweets in just over four hours, #ReleaseOurDrKafeel was the top trending hashtag on Twitter in India on July 19, 2020.
