With a series of executive orders, President-elect Joe Biden plans to reverse some of Trump’s most controversial decisions. On January 25, 2020, President-elect Joe Biden tweeted his support for the rights of transgender people. “Transgender equality is the civil rights issue of our time,” he wrote. “There is no room for compromise when it comes to basic human rights.” According to the Washington Post, Biden will enact a series of executive orders at the start of his administration. Among these executive orders, there will be some dedicated to protecting the rights of transgender people. These will involve lifting the ban on transgender people serving in the military, allowing transgender students to join the sports teams that align with their gender identity, and allowing transgender students to use the locker rooms that align with their gender identity. These policies made up previous federal guidance, but this guidance was withdrawn by President Donald Trump. However, it is not known if Biden will do this on his very first day of office, or simply within the first weeks of his presidency. As a consequence, the claim might be hyperbolic and is therefore only partly true.
