Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the UK government will change its immigration rules for Hong Kong people if China imposes new security laws.Writing in the Times, Mr. Johnson said that if China passes its national security law, the British government will change it's visa rights for Hong Kong's people who hold British National (Overseas) passports. They will be allowed to come to the country for 12 months without a visa and will be given further immigration rights, including the right to work, which could place them on a route to citizenship, but currently, they are allowed to come for six months. Further, he added that around 350,000 people in Hong Kong already have a BNO passport, and further 2.6 million others will also be eligible.
Further, the foreign secretary of the U.K Mr. Dominic Raab also reiterated that the passport rules for Hong Kong residents would be extended if China continued to exert the new security laws in Hong Kong.
