Even though initial studies suggest that the Lambda variant may be vaccine-resistant. However more clinical evidence is needed to confirm it.The Lambda variant, scientifically termed as C.37 of the COVID-19 infections, was first detected in Peru in late 2020. The World Health Organization has classified it as Variant of Interest (VOI). This highly infectious variant is the dominant strain in Chile, Peru, and Argentina.

A study published on bioRxiv ahead of peer review claimed that the Lambda variant of COVID-19 is more resistant to vaccines. According to researchers, the RSYLTPGD246-253N mutation, along with two other mutations in Lambda's spike protein, specifically resists the antibodies created by the vaccine.

However, these studies have been conducted in a lab setting, and there is limited information about the variant. Experts have said that real-world studies are needed to ascertain the immune escape of the variant, and there is an information gap due to the limited capacity for laboratory investigations in Latin America. Hence we mark the claim as unverifiable.
