Dilip Ghosh, a BJP politician from West Bengal declared that COVID-19 was over and the lockdowns imposed in the state were politically motivated. Speaking in a public rally in the Dhaniakhali area in Hooghly district on September 09, 2020, Dilip Ghosh stated that coronavirus is over and claimed that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is intentionally imposing a lockdown so that BJP cannot hold meetings and rallies ahead of elections due next year. Ghosh declared that BJP will conduct rallies and will not follow the government’s coronavirus guidelines as the coronavirus was no longer a threat to people.
The state recorded 3,112 positive cases in a single day on September 10, 2020, with 41 deaths and the case counts did not seem to even decrease, let alone the threats posed by the virus being over.
