Statement by Ali Razzazan and Dr Ali Akbar Velayati confirms that Iran will manufacture drugs to treat COVID-19 patients.Ali Razzazan, chief of distribution of COVID-19 drugs at the Food and Drug Administration of Iran on 21 March 2020 had said that a new antiviral drug used in China had been successful in the treatment of patients and will be soon manufactured in Iran. The chief added that raw materials for the antiviral drug have already arrived in the country and production of the drug will begin, after the customs clearance.

Dr Ali Akbar Velayati, the advisor to the President of Iran, said that Iran has produced favipiravir for the first time at Shahid Beheshti Medical University’s School of Pharmacy and will continue to produce more as required.
