U.S. intel warns Afghanistan that the Taliban might capture Kabul within the next six months.

A new assessment done by the U.S. intelligence community has warned that the government in Kabul may collapse as quickly as six months.

A new assessment done by the U.S. intelligence community has warned that the government in Kabul may collapse as quickly as six months.U.S. President Biden has said that the troops will withdraw from Afghanistan by the 11th of September. The U.S. Army has been stationed there for almost 20 years and successfully neutralized the Taliban group. According to the plan, the forces are now returning home while Talibanis have launched an offensive against the Afghan forces. Reports suggest that the Taliban forces claim to have captured 40 districts in the north of Afghanistan after the government troops laid down their weapons without any resistance. They have seized a key district in northern Kunduz province.

The U.S. has already removed more than half of its 3,500 troops and equipment and plans to station few troops to protect the Embassy in Kabul.

Amid this, an intel report, distributed among U.S. officials, has said that given the opportunity, Taliban forces may take over Kabul and topple the Afghan government in a short period of time. The new assessment differs starkly from the previous analysis, and there is a consensus among analysts that the Afghan government could fall within the next six months. According to the New York Times, the report says the Taliban might retake control in most parts of the country and cited the recent setbacks by Afghanistan’s security forces, including the defeat of an elite commando unit.
