Maharashtra Congress held a board meeting in Mumbai on Feb 23, 2021, despite a ban on political, religious, and social gatherings amid COVID-19.Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray addressed a press conference on February 21 concerning a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state. He announced that all political, religious, and social gatherings were prohibited in any form from February 22. He also urged people to wear a mask, maintain discipline and follow social distancing to avoid a new lockdown. (Ref the video from 23:00)

However, despite Thackeray's announcement, the State Congress Chief Nana Patole chaired the Parliamentary Board meeting in Mumbai to discuss state politics, upcoming local body elections, and ongoing farmers' agitation against new farm laws on February 23, 2021. Before the meeting, Patole told reporters that they followed all the COVID-19 guidelines.

Later, Thackery said, "If you want to expand your party, expand it but do not spread coronavirus by organizing mass gatherings".
