President Biden's staffers fired or demoted over their past history of Marijuana use.

Five White House staffers have been asked to resign, and others have been working remotely over their past history of using marijuana.

Five White House staffers have been asked to resign, and others have been working remotely over their past history of using marijuana.Five employees at the White House have lost their jobs due to a vetting process for security clearance. They failed during the background checks after revealing past marijuana use though the administration had announced a more lenient policy toward past drug use. Further, several other staffers with a history of cannabis are working remotely while their applications are pending further review, according to the White House sources. However, out of hundreds of applicants, only five were disqualified for drug use which included other factors.

The use of marijuana is not legal at the federal level and creates a hurdle for the potential appointees to work in the President's Executive Office. However, the new hiring guidelines do not ban everyone who had used the marijuana, provided they accept they won't use it during the entirety of their government service and undergo random drug tests.
