Turmeric is effective in treating pain related to osteoarthritis of the knee.

Research over the years has proven that the use of turmeric extract is effective in pain management of knee osteoarthritis.

Research over the years has proven that the use of turmeric extract is effective in pain management of knee osteoarthritis.A study published by Annals of Internal Medicine states that Curcuma longa extract, commonly known as turmeric, effectively reduces pain related to osteoarthritis of the knee. Curcuma Longa was more effective than a placebo for knee pain but did not affect knee effusion–synovitis or cartilage composition.

The study published by BMC Arthritis Research & Therapy provided the evidence that daily intake of 186.6 mg a day of bio-optimized Curcuma longa extract (BCL) in patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis lead to the reduction in pain superior to placebo with good safety, despite the use of paracetamol or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Curcumin plays a significant role in healing inflammation, which could benefit arthritis patients, without causing the complications associated with many existing treatments.

Turmeric is promoted as a dietary supplement for various conditions, including arthritis, digestive disorders, respiratory infections, allergies, liver disease, and depression.
