A mass signature campaign was led by world-famous Japanese musician, Ryuichi Sakamoto against the ban.

The Japanese lawmakers voted to lift the dancing ban against the law called fueiho from 1948 that forbid the dance, after midnight. The law was revised in 2015, and the new regulation came into effect on June 23, 2016, allowing the music to play on, until the early hours under some conditions.
