The matter is under investigation.Several news organizations reported that an idol (statue) of lord Saraswathi was found in Domjur town in Howrah district of the state West Bengal. The incident took place a day after the country celebrated Basant Panchmi. According to the local sources, the police have registered a case and arrested a person named Jalal in connection with the incident. After the incident, a group of people belonging to the Hindu community responded to the idol's demolition by gathering at Katliya Jhotla's streets in Howrah and raised slogans.
Several Twitter users have shared images of the broken idol. Some of them made accused the West Bengal state government led by Mamata Banerjee. However, there is no credible information on who was responsible for the incident. The investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
