Meteorological Center Thiruvananthapuram issued a statement about heavy rains, however did not say anything about travel restrictions. Some social posts and messages claimed a cyclone alert had been issued for the residents of Kerala and its bordering districts, advising them not to travel. Many of these messages claimed to be from meteorological officials. The Central Meteorological Department and private meteorologists have issued no cyclone warnings. Thunderstorms and strong winds are the only warnings.

According to the Meteorological Center Thiruvananthapuram (MCT), only light to moderate rain is expected in most regions of Kerala. There's a chance of heavy rain in isolated areas. The effect of the easterly wave was likely to bring widespread rain to Kerala over October 20 and 21. In some areas, extreme rainfall of 12-20 cm was anticipated. Rainfall is expected to lessen around October 23. MCT did not issue any travel restrictions due to an emerging cyclone.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a private firm named Metbeat Weather in Kerala confirmed that there weren't any notifications about the bordering areas to avoid travel. The firm also stated that the messages circulating on social media are false.
