Report from a British firm Comparitech and security researcher Bob Diachenko confirms the leakage of personal data of 267,140,436 Facebook users.In December 2019, Comparitech in partnership with the Ukrainian security researcher Diachenko revealed that the personal data of 267 Million people including Facebook user IDs, names, timestamps and phone numbers had been leaked on the web. Most of the affected users were from the United States. According to Diachenko, the data might be used for illegal scraping operation or the abuse of Facebook API for criminals in Vietnam and also the details could be used for the large-scale SMS spamming, and phishing campaigns.
According to a report by a cyber risk assessment platform Cyble, these details were for sale online In April 2020 for around 500 Euros (approximately 42,000 Indian Rupee). It added that the cause of data leakage might be the third-party API leakage or scrapping.
