In 1966, a collision between a USAF B-52G Bomber and a KC-135 refueling tanker caused 3 bombs to drop on the Spanish fishing village of Palomares.A US Air Force B-52G Bomber on a regular sortie collided with KC-135 refuelling tanker during in-air refuelling which resulted in the refuelling aircraft exploding and killing all four crew members of the tanker as well as 3 B52 crew members. The B52 was carrying 4 unarmed B28 hydrogen bombs out of which 3 fell on the Spanish fishing village of Palomares. The bomb fell into the coast and was recovered 2 months later. Of the three bombs that fell on Palomares, two detonated creating craters 6 to 10 feet deep and caused plutonium radioactive contamination over 2 square kilometres.
Therefore, it is true that the collision between the B52 and the KC-135 caused 3 bombs to accidentally fall and detonate on Spain, causing radioactive contamination over a 2 Km radius.
