Seven European Union countries have approved the Indian-made Covishield vaccine to travel within the EU zone. The Green Pass facility of the European Union is an immunity document meant to ease travel within the Union covering 27 countries. There were reports of Covishield not yet eligible for the EU's digital green certificate. The Covidshield is a version of the AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII). It has been listed for emergency use by WHO but not recognized as an approved vaccine by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
India had warned that it would also not recognize the EU vaccine pass if the bloc did not approve Covishield.
Amid this, sources have confirmed that more than seven EU countries have approved the Covishield vaccine, including Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, and Spain. Estonia and Switzerland have also cleared Covishield for travelers. The green travel pass is recognized by individual states and not by the EU.
