There is no evidence that Xenotropic murine leukaemia virus-related virus (XMRV) is a human pathogen, agreed virologist Judy Mikovits.

American virologist Judy Mikovits conceded in 2012 that there was no evidence that XMRV was a human pathogen.

American virologist Judy Mikovits conceded in 2012 that there was no evidence that XMRV was a human pathogen. As per the Science magazine, the xenotropic murine leukaemia virus-related virus (XMRV) was created randomly in the lab during mouse experiments; which may never have infected any humans. Mikovits had suggested an obscure agent named XMRV caused chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) 2009. Later in 2012, she agreed that there was no evidence that XMRV was a human pathogen.

As per the AABB's publication about XMRV, it originated from the recombination of two mouse endogenous retroviruses during the passing of a prostate tumour xenograft (CWR22) in mice, generating laboratory-derived cell lines that were XMRV-infected. There is no valid evidence that XMRV infect humans or are associated with human disease.

A similar conclusion has been arrived upon in the publication by Clinical Microbiology Reviews.
