A notification became viral on social media, which stated that all mail/express, passenger and suburban train services would remain suspended till September 30 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Indian Railways, on August 10, 2020, clarified that they had not issued any circular regarding the resumption of any train services after September 30. Special Mail Express trains should continue to run. Meanwhile, the Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer, Shivaji Sutar, also clarified that the Railways already issued a letter on May 11, 2020, regarding cancellation of passenger trains, excluding special trains, until further advice.
