Navy spokesman Eric Lavault said that 1,080 sailors from the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle are confirmed to have COVID-19. Eric told The Associated Press that one patient among the sailors is in the intensive care and 20 were hospitalized. He added that according to the U.S. Navy's statement, two among the four U.S. sailors serving in the Charles de Gaulle as part of an exchange program also tested positive. He also mentioned that there was no testing equipment and masks whereas the aircraft carrier’s commander sought to increase the physical distance among the crew on the vessel, but it was difficult to maintain the social distancing measures on a combat vessel.
The added that 545 sailors who had shown the symptoms of COVID-19 were being monitored. However, the investigation to find the cause of the massive spreading of coronavirus in the aircraft carrier is ongoing under the French navy.
