A joint statement from Bruce Willis's family confirms that the actor is retiring from his profession after being diagnosed with aphasia.
Later that day, the actor's ex-wife Demi Moore shared a post on Instagram saying, "To Bruce's amazing supporters, as a family, we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities." The post added that Willis has decided to part ways with his acting career because of his condition. His current wife, Emma Heming, and his children Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel, and Evelyn signed the post.
According to Brenda Rapp, a professor of cognitive science at Johns Hopkins University, "Aphasia is most commonly caused by a stroke that can also stem from head trauma or, in rare cases, from neurological disease." She added that it could affect speech, comprehension, and reading ability and can be treated with speech therapy.
