She revealed that the police summoned her in Sushant Singh Rajput's case. She had asked the police to send somebody to take her statement as she was in Manali, but there was no response. The star who was honored with Padma Shri this year reportedly stated that she would return it if she fails to prove her claims about Sushant's demise.

Along with filmmaker Karan Johar, singer Adnan Sami, and producer Ekta Kapoor, Kangana was honored with a Padma Shri ahead of the seventieth Republic Day on January 25, 2020. Sushant passed away at his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020. Following the news of the actor's suicide, Bollywood's nepotism debate has gained social media momentum. The actress has been at the front to demand justice for Sushant.
