There is insufficient evidence to prove that Atal Behari Vajpayee had written an apology letter to Indira Gandhi.Subramanian Swamy, who was a Member of Parliament(MP) from BJP in Rajya Sabha, had written an article in The Hindu, dated June 13, 2000, titled Unlearnt Lessons of the Emergency.

He had claimed in the article that it was on the record of Maharashtra assembly proceedings that then RSS chief, Balasaheb Deoras, had written several apology letters to Indira Gandhi from Yerawada jail, against the national emergency.

His article further stated that Atal Behari Vajpayee had also written an apology letter to Indira Gandhi when he was in jail, which she accepted. It resulted in speculation as he was released on parole stating health conditions.

However, there is no official evidence to prove that Atal Bihari Vajpayee wrote an apology letter to Indira Gandhi.
