This proposal was welcomed by the Christine Lagare, president of the European Central Bank during an interview which was held on 18 May 2020. She welcomed the proposal and said that the proposal would allow the European Commission to borrow funds for the long term. She also stated that this proposal would directly benefit the countries which have been worst hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
