Research news published by the University of Cambridge confirms that scientists observed a half billion-year-old ‘social network’ in early animals. On March 5, 2020, The University of Cambridge published research written by Sarah Collins titled "Half billion-year-old social network observed in early animals". The research study shows that some of the first animals on Earth were connected by networks of thread-like filaments. These are fossilised threads which were almost four metres long – connecting organisms known as Rangeomorphs, who dominated Earth’s oceans half a billion years ago. Those filaments might have to be used for nutrition, communication, or reproduction.
The results of this research were also published in a journal called Current Biology, on 5 March 2020.
