Patanjali Ayurveda has launched a medicine that can cure COVID-19.

Patanjali Ayurved launched a medicine for COVID-19 called 'Coronil', but currently there is no evidence that suggests that it can cure coronavirus.At the launch of its medicine in Haridwar, Baba Ramdev claimed that tablets named Coronil and Swasari Vati, and oil called Anu Oil can cure the novel coronavirus. He claimed that his company conducted two-stage trials. The first was a clinical controlled study that took place in Delhi, Ahmedabad, and many other cities. Under this, 280 patients were included, and 100 percent of those recovered. After controlling the disease and its complications, the all-important clinical control trial was conducted. During the trial, he claimed that 69 percent of the patients recovered in 3 days, while a 100 percent recovery was seen in seven days.

However, the Ministry of AYUSH has sought details about the medicine and requested the concerned State Licensing Authority of the Uttarakhand Government to provide copies of license and product approval details. It has directed Patanjali and Ramdev to stop advertising such claims and said that facts of the claim and details of the stated scientific study are not known to the Ministry yet. The Ministry had also issued a Gazette Notification on 21st April 2020, stating the requirements and how the research studies on COVID-19 should be handled.

The World Health Organisation had said that there are several ongoing clinical trials of both western and traditional medicines, but currently, there are no medicines that have been shown to prevent or cure the disease. Until the medicine claimed to be a cure by Baba Ramdev passes the official processes and gets approval, this medicine cannot be officially considered as a potential cure. The details of the clinical trials or the research conducted by Patanjali are currently not publicly available and the results have not been peer-reviewed. Thus, at the moment it cannot be confirmed that Coronil can actually cure COVID-19.
