Wuhan lab was performing coronavirus experiments on bats from the caves where the disease is believed to have originated with a £3m grant from the U.S.

It can be confirmed that the U.S funded the research of the Wuhan lab on bats but tracking the origin of the COVID-19 back to the lab is not possible.

It can be confirmed that the U.S funded the research of the Wuhan lab on bats but tracking the origin of the COVID-19 back to the lab is not possible. The research published on the websites of plos.org and Nature confirms that the research studies on bat were funded by the United States National Institutes of Health. One study was headlined as "Discovery of a rich gene pool of bat SARS-related coronaviruses provides new insights into the origin of SARS coronavirus" while the other study was titled “Fatal swine acute diarrhoea syndrome caused by an HKU2-related coronavirus of bat origin”. Both studies had the affiliation of the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

However, we were not able to extract the exact amount which was funded by the U.S. government to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for the above research.

Also, this claim implies that both the U.S and China were responsible for the COVID-19 outbreak. This cannot be objectively verified at the current time as there is no evidence to show that this Novel Coronavirus was originated from a lab. Furthermore, the researches done on bats were regarding the SARS COV (SARS Coronavirus) and there is no mention of a new/mutated version of the SARS Cov or the Novel Coronavirus anywhere in the researches which were jointly funded.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
