A recent report published by the medical journal The Lancet stressed the health impact due to climate change and warned countries of the delayed response.

The Lancet Countdown’s sixth annual report said that one-third of Indians were vulnerable to heatwaves compared to 1996. It mentioned the heat-related mortality in India between 2018 and 2019 saw a big jump in absolute terms. India also figured in the list of five countries with the highest exposure of the vulnerable population in the last five years. The document also pointed to economic losses due to extreme climate change in the medium-HDI (Human Development Index) group (Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India).
