A violent face-off took place at Galwan valley with casualties on both Indian and Chinese sides.

The Indian and Chinese soldiers were engaged in a brutal fight that left 20 Indian soldiers and an unknown number of Chinese soldiers dead.

On the morning of June 16, the Indian Army had initially said that an officer and two soldiers were killed in the violent face-off with China in the Galwan Valley. But by the evening, the Army revised the figure to 20 and said that 17 others, who were critically injured in the line of duty and exposed to sub-zero temperatures at the standoff location, succumbed to their injuries. This is the first deadly clash in the border area between India and China in 45 years.

Chinese troops allegedly suffered 43 casualties during the face-off with the Indian Army at the Line of Actual Control (LAC), but there is no official confirmation regarding the casualties on the Chinese side. Meanwhile, according to NDTV the Chinese have admitted to casualties during military talks with India.
