The Khan of Kalat had approached the Government of India for political relationships, which was refused. The Khan of Kalat, the Nawab of Balochistan, was in discussion with the top Indian Congress leadership on the fate of Balochistan. There were geographical compulsions to accede to Pakistan, so he approached the Government of India for political relationships. Khan always wanted the Balochistan to be an independent country. He tried to make a deal with India to return the land, which initially belonged to Kalat state.
However, there was a report by AIR which broadcasted that the Khan had been pressing for accession to India, and V P Menon rejected it. But later, Nehru clarified that Mr. Menon made no such comments.
