Ferguson and Imperial College have released a report in 2020 which claimed that half a million Britons and 2.2 million Americans may be killed by Covid–19.

The report published by Imperial college Covid-19 response team confirms the possible death rate in the U.S and the U.K due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report published by Imperial college Covid-19 response team confirms the possible death rate in the U.S and the U.K due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In a report released on 16 March 2020 on behalf of the London’s Imperial College, British epidemiologist Neil Ferguson and his Covid-19 response team had predicted the number of the deaths related to Covid-19 in the UK and US. It says it had applied previously published microsimulation model to two countries and used two fundamental strategies called mitigation and suppression. It added that in the absence of any control measures or spontaneous changes in individual behaviour, they would expect a peak in daily deaths to occur after approximately 3 months in the present scenarios.

The report predicted that in an unmitigated epidemic, there would be approximately 510,000 deaths in the UK and 2.2 million in the U.S.

Finally, it said, this conclusion has only been reached in the last few days in the UK with the refinement of estimates of likely ICU demand and also NHS providing increasing certainty around the limits of hospital surge capacity.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
