It authorizes the Department of Veterans Affairs to establish a five-year pilot program on dog training therapy that provides service dogs to veterans dealing with stress symptoms. Dog therapy programs are found to help in reducing symptoms associated with PTSD and improved quality of life. A report by VA found that service dogs trained to address PTSD can make a difference in treating the veterans by providing emotional support.
