Indian Railways dismissed the reports of a possible hike in passenger fares. There is no such proposal under consideration. Some media reports claimed that there would be a steep rise in train fares starting from Jan. 06, 2021. However, the Indian Railways dismissed the reports and said the news is false and baseless. It also advised the media not to print or broadcast such unfounded information.

"Certain sections of media have reported about the possibility of some hike in passenger fares. This news is baseless and without any factual basis. There is no proposal under consideration to increase fares. Media is advised not to publish or circulate such reports," the Indian Railways said in a statement.
