While the healthcare systems in Southern Florida are operating near capacity, Florida AHCA claims that the state is not yet overwhelmed with patients.Florida's Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) has reported as of July 22nd that the state currently has 9,469 COVID-19 hospitalizations. Moreover, of the 47,736 beds available throughout hospitals in Florida, only 21.29% are available. However, only 15.30% of the total adult ICU beds are available. The Miami Herald claims that the heavily affected county of Miami-Dade has been shouldering high patient load over the past few weeks. According to the Herald, several heard-hit areas within the Miami-Dade county have been forced to direct an overflow of patients to other facilities in the system for treatment.

Furthermore, Memorial Healthcare System's chief medical officer Stanley Marks stated that as of July 21st, hospitals in Southern Florida are seeing a significant need for ventilators and have asked the state for assistance in securing more high-flow oxygen equipment. Additionally, a Time magazine article states that according to the ICU director at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital, their County will soon run out of ventilators, and rooms of the cases continue to rise at the current pace.
