It will be made available for all the citizen at an affordable price.Covishield - the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and pharma giant AstraZeneca and being tested by the SII in India - is currently in Phase 2 and Phase 3 human trials. On Sept. 26, 2020, Adar Poonawalla, Chief Executive Officer of SII, tweeted the estimated budget Indian government- Ministry of Health and Family Welfare needs for the corona vaccine. It will approximately cost the government Rs 80,000 crore to buy and distribute the coronavirus vaccine. Accordingly, SII plans to guide vaccine manufacturers, both in India and overseas, to service the needs of the country as per procurement and distribution. The government is then going to distribute the vaccine free of cost to the citizens. The Serum Institute has set a price limit of 225 per dose for the vaccine in India. It has also tied up with another global vaccine-maker like Novavax, for manufacturing the vaccine in India.
