President Trump said he is opposed to an emergency bailout for the U.S. Postal Service because mail-balloting could cause widespread fraud. On August 13, 2020, during an interview with Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo, President Trump said he opposes a $25 billion emergency injection sought by the U.S. Postal. He said he opposes an emergency bailout for the U.S. Postal Service because he wants to restrict how many Americans can vote by mail. Trump said his purpose is to prevent Democrats from expanding mail-balloting, which he believes would invite widespread fraud. The president has also previously admitted that he believes mail voting would allow more Democrats to cast ballots and hurt Republican candidates, including himself. A new coronavirus aid package released in May 2020 by House Democrats included $25 billion for the cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service.

In a previous check, Logically proved that voter fraud is very rare in the United States, and mail-in ballots will not substantially increase the risk of voter fraud.
