Three female lions and one male were tested after showing slight symptoms. Barcelona Zoo authorities said the lions are being closely monitored.Veterinary authorities at Barcelona Zoo in Spain confirmed the same on Dec. 08, 2020. Two staff at the Barcelona zoo also tested positive for COVID-19 after the outbreak was first detected in Nov. 2020. Authorities are investigating how the lions were infected. Administrators carried out PCR tests on the lions in the same way as humans tested.

"The Zoo has contacted and collaborated with international experts such as the Veterinary Service of the Bronx Zoo, the only one that has documented cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection in felines in New York," the Barcelona zoo said in a statement.

Barcelona Zoo authorities said that the male named Kiumbe and three females named Zala, Nima, and Run Run were given veterinary care for their mild clinical condition. The anti-inflammatory treatment has been given while being closely monitored by staff and doctors.

The four-year-old male and the females, who are all 16 years old, have had no contact with other animals at the zoo, which is open to the public.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
