The World Health Organisation states that Female Genital Mutilation (FMG) can cause severe bleeding and problems while urinating, cysts formation, infections, complications during childbirth, as well as increased risk of newborn deaths. It is estimated that in a year, 3 million girls are at risk of undergoing female genital mutilation, the majority of whom are cut before they are of the age 15. Almost 300 million girls and women alive today have undergone FMG.
