Trump administration plans to declassify the reports on Chinese Bounties on U.S. forces, but officials have not elaborated on the matter. The disclosure comes days before the end of Trump's presidency, which said that Beijing is plotting to kill American troops in Afghanistan. Multiple agencies were trying to corroborate the initial intelligence reports. Earlier, a similar story about Russians offering bounties for Taliban militants to kill U.S. troops in Afghanistan was in circulation.

National Security Advisor, Robert O'Brien, briefed Trump about the unconfirmed intelligence on Dec. 17, 2020. The report says the interest in Afghanistan stems from Beijing's desire to prevent Chinese Muslim separatist groups from using the country as a base. However, one senior U.S official described the intelligence as “very thin" and less credible without any hard evidence. Axios reported that the information would be declassified, but White House officials have not elaborated on it.
