A minor Hindu boy, a resident of Bela Dih village of Katiya in Gopalganj, Bihar, was allegedly killed and his body was thrown into a nearby river.

The Director-General of Bihar Police, Gupteshwar Pandey made an official statement that the boy was drowned in the river but was not murdered.

On May 17, the Pandey clarified the rumours, stating that he visited the river of that village where Rohit’s body was recovered in the presence of the victim’s family. He said that none of the residents from the village claimed that the incident was the communal overtones. The police were investigating that the death was premeditated murder or accidental drowning. Meanwhile, the few cattle grazers near the river said that the five children had gone for swimming in the river and they had not seen the sixth person at the spot. Further, the doctor who has performed the postmortem and other forensic experts suggested the death was due to drowning. Therefore, DGP also requested people to refrain from promoting rumours on the case.
