10,000 paramilitary troops to be withdrawn from Jammu and Kashmir by the Indian government.

Senior government officials have confirmed the withdrawal of 10,000 Central Armed Police Force personnel from Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources said that the government has decided to withdraw the forces because the security situation in the valley has improved, and terrorists are on the back foot. They were sent in August 2019 as a precautionary measure when the Centre ended the state's special status and bifurcated it into two Union Territories. A senior official confirmed that a total of 100 CAPF companies had been asked to return to their base locations in the country. They include 40 companies of CRPF and 20 each of Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
