Dr. Fauci had emphasized the need for extra funds as the general threat of infectious diseases outbreak was real.Anthony S. Fauci, the infectious disease expert, during his speech at Georgetown University in January 2017 on pandemic preparation, had said that the incoming administration would face the same challenges that their predecessors were faced with. He said the outbreak of infectious diseases could surprise everyone, and therefore the government should appropriate funds to respond effectively. Further said that there was a need for collaboration between the U.S. and other countries and the public and private health sector. He stressed for maximum preparedness to avoid situations like in the past while dealing with zika virus.

Also, Fauci did not warn about the coronavirus specifically, as some viral posts claim, but he referred to infectious disease outbreaks in general.
