Breonna Taylor was not shot while sleeping in her bed, she was awake, in her hallway.

Breonna Taylor was found dead in her hallway with multiple shots fired by LMPD officers. On March 13, 2020, Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old emergency medical technician (EMT), was shot by Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers in her apartment in Louisville. They entered the apartment for executing a search warrant as part of a narcotics investigation. On that night, Breonna Taylor was with her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker.

Plainclothes police, executing a search warrant, forced their way into the apartment where Taylor was in bed with her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, shortly after midnight. They got up when they heard a loud banging at the door and made their way into the hallway. Walker said he and Taylor both called out, asking who was at the door. Walker fired a shot from his licensed gun, later telling police he thought that Taylor's ex-boyfriend, Jamarcus Glover, had broken in, according to the New York Times. Officials say Walker's bullet struck one of the police officers in the leg. The three officers returned fire, discharging 32 rounds, according to a ballistics report from the FBI. Taylor was shot amid the commotion and died on the hallway floor.

The three officers claim they identified themselves before entering the residence, but multiple neighbors have provided statements that the police did not knock or identify themselves. No drugs were found in the apartment. Taylor had no criminal history, and Walker had no felony charges before the night of the shooting.
