On September 21, 142.2 million Brazilians, or almost 90 percent of the adult population, were vaccinated with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
Brazilian Ministry of Health states that the Federal Government's primary focus and strategy for combating the virus in the country are the national vaccination campaign against COVID-19. The ministry says that the country reached a key milestone on September 21, when 142.2 million Brazilians received at least one dose of vaccine drugs. This accounts to more than 90 percent of the adult population.
"The secret of success is to walk together, Union, States, DF, municipalities, and population, always following our National Plan for the Operationalization of Vaccination. Only in this way will we be able to defeat our only enemy, which is the virus," stated Marcelo Queiroga, the Minister of Health.
Since June 2021, the moving average of deaths has been plummeting, dropping by more than 70 percent up to September 2021. The Health Ministry states that this is due to the high vaccination rate. The index was based on a 14-day weighted average of fatalities reported.
Furthermore, vaccination positively influenced infrastructure and the medical care network, as evidenced by daily decreases in infirmary and ICU room occupancy rates in COVID-19. On the other hand, low bed occupancy suggested that the health system is less overcrowded and that there are less severe or severe cases of COVID-19 that necessitate hospitalization or medical-hospital treatment.
