Bhutan has begun COVID-19 vaccination using an India-made vaccine.

The second consignment of 400,000 Covishield vaccines arrived on March 22 at the Paro International Airport from India.

On arrival of the vaccines to Bhutan, the Venerable Dorji Lopen and Venerable Laytshog Lopen conducted the Thruesel and blessing Ceremony on March 22. At the event Lyonpo (Dr.) Tandi Dorji conveyed deep appreciation and gratitude towards Shri Narendra Modi and India's Government for the generous gift and for assisting Bhutan in managing the pandemic.

Bhutan launched the nationwide vaccination campaign on March 27, 2021, at Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School, Thimphu. On the first day of the national COVID-19 vaccination program, a total of 85949 people were vaccinated.
