The Maharashtra cabinet approved to reduce the stamp duty rates on properties to boost the real estate market amid the COVID-19 crisis.Maharashtra government decided to temporarily decrease the stamp duty rates imposed in the state on August 26, 2020, to support the real estate market hit by COVID-19. The stamp duty in urban areas is reduced by 3 percent on all land or home sale transactions executed and registered between September 1 and December 31, 2020. There will also be a 2 percent reduction on stamp duty from January 1 to March 31, 2021.

While in rural areas, stamp duty rates have been cut from 4 percent to 1 percent till December 31 and 2 percent till March 31, 2021.
