India announced a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing winter Olympics as China decided to feat a military commander who took part in the Galwan clash.
China had picked Qi Fabao, a PLA regiment commander, as one of the Olympics torchbearers. He was part of the command involved in the deadly Galwan valley clashes in 2020 and had sustained a grievous head injury. Twenty Indian soldiers were killed, and the Chinese side suffered many casualties. The two sides have held several rounds of talks to diffuse the border tension.
Many other countries have declared diplomatic boycotts of the Games, citing China's human rights record.
