The NHS guidance has advised the use of proning in treating Covid-19 patients but cannot verify if medics are using the technique as last resort. The National Health Service (NHS) in its 8 April 2020 Specialty guides for patient management during the coronavirus pandemic says improvements in oxygenation can often be achieved by proning. It added that recent experience suggested a beneficial response to prone positioning in pneumonitis and ARDS patients.

Daily Mail had published a story on how proning helped a lady who was near to death recovered from COVID-19. It said that the doctors had heard about the technique from medics abroad which they used as a last resort which cannot be verified based on one incident alone.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
