The Oxford-AstraZeneca’s vaccine candidate AZD1222 is currently in Phase 2/3 clinical trials in the UK.

The researchers at Oxford University in collaboration with the AstraZeneca have begun phase II/III clinical trial of a COVID-19 vaccine candidate.

The researchers at Oxford University in collaboration with the AstraZeneca have begun phase II/III clinical trial of a COVID-19 vaccine candidate. In April 2020, University of Oxford researchers began testing a COVID-19 vaccine in human volunteers in Oxford today. Around 1,110 people took part in the trial, half receiving the vaccine and the other half (the control group) receiving a widely available meningitis vaccine. The vaccine AZD1222 was previously called ChAdOx1 nCoV-19.

Researchers at the University of Oxford have begun enrolling subjects in a phase 2/3 clinical trial of AstraZeneca-partnered COVID-19 vaccine AZD1222. The next stage of the program, which follows a 1,000-subject phase 1, is set to enroll 10,260 people in the U.K. to generate results to support the first shipments to customers in September. The phase II part of the study involves expanding the age range of people the vaccine is assessed in. The phase III part of the study involves assessing how the vaccine works in a large number of people over the age of 18. This group will assess how well the vaccine works to prevent people from becoming infected and unwell with COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
